Do you know that there is a direct connection between César Chávez, Tempe and the state of Arizona? Find out more through Tempe History Museum’s new featured exhibit, “Extending a Hand: César Chávez an Arizona Connection.” The exhibit highlights art and stories from some of the people who supported, worked with and were inspired by this important civil rights and farm labor leader. View the exhibit and join us for light refreshments, music, performances and more. 

Opening reception: When: Friday, March 29, 6-9 p.m.

Where: Tempe History Museum, 809 E. Southern Ave. 

Who: Free for all ages

The exhibit will be on display through Oct. 6, 2024. 

Museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. Admission is free.

In addition to the featured exhibit, "Corazón del Campo" will be on display in the museum's Community Room. This special art exhibition exemplifies the struggles and the honor that has been placed on César Chávez's work and history. Artists' work will represent an Arizona and a Valley connection to Chávez's work and the farmworker movement. March through July, the gallery will feature artists that have direct experience with Chávez or the farm labor movement. The second installation, on display July-Oct. 6, will include a group of new artists who were introduced to Chávez through school or family. Exhibiting artists include Jim Covarrubias, Jose Andres Girón, Jose Benavides, Martin Moreno and Zarco Guerrero
